Did the sea recognize the cloud
As its own face, but without the scorn
Without the salt, freshened,
Sweetened, bolstered, heightened,
Its shape altered simply
By dwelling nearer to the sun?
And did the sea say,
Bring me there
Take more of me
And did the cloud answer in good faith,
As his friend’s face evaporated into a shadow
Of its former glory?
Did they cry together?
